About the Event

EMLF's newcomer workshops are designed for immigrants, newcomers, and people with migrations experiences, especially those who learning to read and write in English.


This workshop will be led by Antonia Banyard, the award-winning author of Never Going Back, a novel for adults set in Nelson, which was nominated for One Book, One Kootenay. She has written four non-fiction books for 8–12 year olds. Water Wow! Won the American Institute of Physics Science Communication Award, the Green Book Festival Award, and the EUREKA! Nonfiction Children’s Book Award. She immigrated to Canada as a child. She works in book publishing and volunteers for Malambo Grassroots as their fundraising lead. She lives in Nelson with her family and volunteers with the Elephant Mountain Literary Society to bring authors into local schools.
